Over-looking.
A reflection on today’s humanities class.
It seems to this student that today’s lecture lumped all of sub-cultural movements and phenomena as marketing tactics, that nothing organic comes from sub-culture and that it is all something that has been sold. Which is interesting, considering that Douglass Rushkoff’s special, The Merchants of Cool , was referenced. Rushkoff makes a...

The American Tradition
The Thomas More Humanities cycle this year is the cycle of the American Tradition. Looking at the politics, philosophies and literature of America to get a better understanding at what is means to be an American.
Today’s lecture from Dr. Connell went into discovering what the American Myth is through poetry (meaning verse or prose: anything that is poetic) because it takes the ideals and...
Simple things.
It wasn’t until today that I realized what was actually making me so homesick. Topher sent me a text message with an advertisement that looked just like Mark Ryan. It’s things like that. The sound of Megan’s excited voice, that look on Nate’s face as he figures out something insane and rubs his ear, Mark Ryan’s infectious smile, Zack’s drawl, Elder’s voice...

Memory.
Whenever I come to The Daily Grind downtown, all of my thoughts jumble together as I remember “the good old days” of Thursday nights my sophmore year.
Thursdays were the days that everyone looked forward to. It was the day you picked your best outfit at the beginning of the week, Wednesday became like Friday, and Friday you were still buzzing and talking about everything that happened...

Blue eyes.
I will name my daughter Pecola. And give her all the love I can muster. I will assure her she is beautiful. And hope that she ceases to fall into maddness.
Can you immitate that for me again?
Ever witness anyone fall over from laughing in the snow? It’s a wonderful experience.
Well, now that I am firmly convicted in my faith, I’m going to go to the...

Fox Poll Sees Clinton as Most Ready to Lead... →
“On the one hand … A new Fox News poll says that Americans see Sen. Hillary Clinton as the presidential candidate the most prepared to begin leading the country on “day one.” On the other hand … The same poll also says Americans see her as the person most likely to do anything to get elected, including something unethical. (This may have more to do with the long...

New locations=good.
I can hear Enya blaring from Helen’s room. Helen got here recently from Uganda. Lizzie and I were going outside for a cigarette, and she tagged along, asking us about the reasons why we smoke. Addiction. Anyways, she began to become very excited as she packed a snow ball and threw it at us. “It’s like the movies!” she exclaimed. Yes, living on the second floor feels like a...
My oh my.
I was told last night that I was a Catholic. Scary. As Jamie and I had an arguement involving the grace of God, Richard laughed and pointed at Jamie, “You’re the Protestant” and then at me, “And you’re the Catholic.” Wasn’t it only a year ago I was making fun of my Catholic friends? Is this place rubbing off on me?

Book-Store Blues (Minus the blues)
As many of you readers know, I started my job at Border’s yesterday. The first thing my trainer (Olivia) said to us (there was another girl training with me) was, “You guys know we get free coffee and tea, right?” We explained we knew. She got up, her voice rising a pitch or so, and said “Alright, well let’s go get some free tea and coffee!” It’s during...

Post-BomBourbon.
I will post more pictures as soon as people upload them. I may be going out with some HoCro hoes in a few hours, then I can get mine developed and uploaded. Today I am a walking zombie. Everything spins. I’m in delirium. I am currently looking at places I may be able to transfer to in the spring. I’m gunning for UofL and UofM, but I’m not positive. My decision to transfer,...
